On an Awesome note…

I won’t often put up a rant about music, be it amazing or total shite, but Frank Turner deserves special mention.

With songs that are soulful, clever and packed with so much attitude that they might just make you want to burn police cars and rant madly at that sly old so-and-so of an ex, he is well worth the time to find and check out, and definately worth the money if you want to buy his music.

For those of you who enjoy more, um… emotion provoking music, there’s also his pensive, more downbeat songs which are equally as good.

Albums include “Sleep is for the Week”, “Love, Ire & Song”, and a new one out in September 09 called “Poetry of the Deed”

Worth checking out. He’s independent so don’t steal his music.

Woo, tests (which all in all went pretty well) are over, but also is first year, sadly. Made a ton of new friends, and got alot of experience and insight about living with people ! Also my course was really interesting, though in hindsight i wish i had done philosophy. Ah well, what can you do ?

Moving out of student accommodation next weekend, and by default out of Cork. I’ll miss this city ! Though i’m sure i’ll be up during the summer.

Speaking of which, going to England in July, should be nice. Think we’re going to Somerset, though i’m not sure. Should be nice anyway, providing the weather holds out… Being Irish you can’t help being pessimistic about the weather !

Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros. The less known but still awesome band that eventually formed after the break up of the Clash. Joe Strummer was and still is a legend. RIP.

So, History test tests actually went quite good. Paper two (modern Irish history) was pretty yucky but i’d say it’ll be fine.

The Green Day album is pretty damn good, and the artwork on the cover sleeves and inside the wee lyrics booklet is awesome too !

Yum coffee !

Anyway, yesterday was pretty good, had some of the guys over and made ALOT of pizza. Wild night in, followed by ten minute excursion to the pub. Although “wild” might not be a suitable word… maybe “eventful” would be better. Lots of laughing anyway !

Oh yeah, finally found out how to put up pictures !

Here’s that Francis Bacon painting i was talking about two posts ago

Scary looking eh ? Its one of his paintings of Pope Innocent X . His style of painting is quite dark and Bizarre and Margaret Thatcher described him as “that man who paints those dreadful pictures”.

What a legend. Bacon that is, not Thatcher.

And so i’m off. Until next time !

Agh !

Well, i’ve my first History paper in two and a half hours time – East and West, the origins of European Identity. Its actually really interesting.

Well, I’m going to buy the new Green Day Album now ( Awww Yeah) so i’m off.

Post numero two !

Ok, so i gotta get a bit more into this thing, that is decided.

Last few days were quite alright, but yesterday was certainly the highlight. At the moment there’s tests left right and centre, so naturally you’d think i’d study.

Nope.

Yesterday myself and Alan watched “Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus”. If you don’t believe me watch this, it’s, um… just watch it.

Yup. And there’s an hour an twenty minutes more where that came from !

As scary monster films go its actually quite funny, about a quarter way into the film there’s quite a memorable scene involving the shark and a transatlantic passenger jet. The film just drips with cheese.

On other news, history test tomorrow ! I have the feeling i’m just procrastinating from studying… Oh well.

I was going to leave you with a painting by Francis Bacon that i quite like but i’m apparently not technologically minded enough to put one below this sentence !

Until next time !

McWorld, please.

There’s a flashing red light on the giant miller can in the brewery outside my window.

The new X-Men film is supposedly rubbish, i think i’m seeing it tomorrow. Maybe.

I saw the new Star Trek film this afternoon, i was pleasantly surprised by it, i’d actually go so far as to say it was epic. Hope there’s another out soon, i’m  looking forward to the new adventures of Cpt. Kirk and his crew !

The attraction of films like that is that they allow us to participate in heroism or greatness that we might not otherwise witness or achieve. I’d go so far as to say that everyone wants to be a defining influence on the world in some way or another, whether they realise this or not.

Are people destined for greatness, or is greatness thrust on the meek, making them mighty ?
